The Pat Benson Boxing Academy is more than just a boxing club. Our community and education projects have a positive social impact, utilising the power of sport for positive change. The Community Sports Foundation is our charitable arm, increasing social and community inclusion. Running alongside our competitive pathway, our community projects enable people to achieve in life through the power of sport, by improving their physical and mental wellbeing. Registered Charity Number: 1176806 Mick Maguire “PBBA is an outstanding example of how a well run community boxing club can have a positive impact on the area it serves. I have visited the club on several occasions as a representative of England Boxing and witnessed first hand the outstanding work being undertaken on a daily basis with residents of the City of Birmingham whom are most in need of the clubs assistance. It is a delight to watch how in tune the staff at PBBA are to the needs of the people who come into their facility and they show remarkable empathy and understanding of the variety of issues that each individual is facing. Its even more incredible when you realist that many of the staff delivering programmes such as Mind-Fit the mental health activity project, or the diversionary knife crime programmes, were actually nurtured from within the club itself via its innovative apprenticeship programme and have also worn the PBBA vest in championships and competitions across the country and the wider UK. Aside from the community work the boxing club also boasts a proud heritage having produced numerous ABA champions including Mark and Paul Ramsey as well as Matthew Macklin. We at England Boxing are very proud to have such a positive and vibrant organisation as part of our membership and we look forward to continuing working closely with the club to ensure that it will keep on making such a positive impact for years to come." Tom McIntosh “Whilst anyone who has spent time at the gym knows this place comes alive when it starts to fill with participants creating a buzzing environment, whether you are preparing for your next fight, part of one of the targeted social programs or just working on your fitness to stay healthy. Pat Benson Boxing Academy and its charitable arm, Pat Benson Community Sports Foundation is a fantastic example of how the power of sport can be harnessed to change people’s lives. The club is a key asset in the community and has developed a number of innovative programs, which enable them to meet the needs of young work and adults who are inactive and disengaged. The club and the foundation continue to develop as an organisation; this has enabled them to expand their work and support young people and adults with complex needs. Evidence of this impact has been particularly seen through the award-winning ‘Mindfit program’. The club is a critical part of a high quality sport for development network across Birmingham. It’s exciting to see the organisation continue to develop and utilise sport and physical activity as a force for good across multiple segments of society." Mind Fit is for anyone who has experienced poor mental health and is ready to make a positive lifestyle change. Designed to improve people’s physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, the programme offers structured boxing fitness sessions supported by a social group and regular “Healthy Minds” workshops.
